Suad believes that for each of us, working towards growth, self-understanding, acceptance, change and healing is a lifelong journey, which at some points can benefit from the support of a counsellor. Suad strives to honour the uniqueness of each client’s history and lived experience by providing a safe and non-judgmental space for clients to explore their inner thoughts and feelings and work through difficulties to create a meaningful life.
Suad is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. She holds a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology from Simon Fraser University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree majoring in Psychology and minoring in Counselling. Suad is also a Certified Emotion Focused Family Therapist and has training in several therapeutic approaches including: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Emotion Focused Family Therapy, Gottman Method Couples Therapy (Level 2), Lifespan Integration, Narrative Therapy, and Mindfulness.
Suad has over 10 years experience working in non profit agencies and government with all populations including adults, parents, youth and children who have struggled with anxiety, depression, domestic violence, eating disorders, substance use, body image, self-esteem/self-worth, stress management, parenting, relationship difficulties, PTSD, and trauma.
Using a holistic and trauma informed approach, Suad utilizes a combination of therapies to help clients get unstuck, build practical skills, address underlying themes, and get back to a place of greater connectedness to themselves and others.
Outside of Peak Resilience, Suad works as an Individual and Family Therapist in an Outpatient Eating Disorders Program.

What experience or background do you bring to your counselling and supervision practice that is uniquely yours?
Clients have told me they feel comfortable and safe opening up because of my calm and warm presence, realness, and sense of humour. All of which have developed from my own unique life experiences and share of struggles that has allowed me to have a deep sense of compassion, curiosity, and understanding of suffering. I don’t claim to know it all or have it all figured out, but I have dedicated my life to continuous learning and I deeply believe in and practice a lot of the things I encourage my clients to do.
What is your favourite thing about working closely with people every day?
I feel so privileged to help people heal themselves every day. I get to see clients gain deeper personal insight, challenge old ways of thinking and/or behaving that no longer serve them, regulate their emotions and nervous system, develop better ways of coping with problems and improve their relationships. There is something so special about witnessing clients get to a place where they connect to their inner wisdom- all while grappling with the difficult parts of their lives. I believe that this is where all change begins. I especially love when clients who were initially skeptical of the process start to experience shifts in their lives!
What is a personal challenge that you have overcome in your own life?
A few years ago, I had a serious accident that changed my life. While my physical injuries left me using a wheelchair for a period of time and required a lot of medical intervention and rehabilitation, the trauma I experienced left me with significant symptoms of post traumatic stress (trouble sleeping, easily startled, nightmares, anxiety, and concentration/memory problems). As a parent and a person who always had a lot on the go, it took a lot of work for me accept my limitations and chronic pain following my accident and I required the support of a counsellor to work through this and the trauma. Despite being a counsellor, it was not easy finding someone who was the right fit, but when I did it was some of the best personal work I’ve ever done. Now I focus more on being rather than doing and practices like restorative yoga, walks, self-compassion, being in nature and belly laughs with friends and family help me find balance and continued healing.
What have you learned from your work?
Human beings are incredibly resilient! Struggle, pain, ups and downs are a part of living a fulfilling and meaningful life. No one is immune from it and within each person is the ability to heal, recover, and transform their lives. There is ALWAYS hope.
