Joann Liu

M.Ed, Registered Clinical Counselor # 17668

Joann is inspired by vulnerability. She works to create a brave space in which clients can feel comfortable to share all the parts of themselves—the parts that are easier to sit with, and the parts that are harder to face. She believes that the relationship between the client and counsellor matters deeply in undoing aloneness – something that everyone feels from time to time.

Her intersectional feminist approach to counselling means that she seeks to foster an egalitarian relationship with clients, one that sees the client as the knowledge-keeper of themselves. As a BIPOC woman, she acknowledges the ways in which systemic institutions contribute to our lived experiences, and can shape how we have been moving through this world.

Joann holds a Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology from UBC, and is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. Her clinical experience has included working with people from all stages of life, on issues including depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship conflict, self-worth and grief and loss. Outside of Peak Resilience, she works as a Secondary School counsellor and deeply enjoys being with her youth.

She is mama to a fierce little toddler, and has learned from him that joy and pain are both important parts of the human experience.
