What experience or background do you bring to your counselling and supervision practice that is uniquely yours?
I’ve been told that I am a good listener. This sounds like a pretty basic skill for a counsellor. But if I can create a comfortable space for someone that allows them to feel heard and validated, then I feel like I’m doing something right. I’ve also experienced my own mental health struggles, and feel that this helps me to better understand where my clients are coming from.
What is your favourite thing about working closely with people every day?
I truly love connecting with people and having meaningful conversations. I sometimes can’t believe how lucky I am to work in a role in which building relationships with people is at the core of what we do. It is a privilege to share a space with someone who has courageously sought out counselling support and to show a vulnerable side of themselves.
What is a personal challenge that you have overcome in your own life?
Becoming a mom! Trying to navigate the ups and downs of being a new parent, all with very little sleep. This experience has made me recognize the importance of self-care in my life, which also includes reaching out to my support network and resources for help when needed.
What have you learned from your work?
We are often stronger and more resilient than we believe ourselves to be.
